What To Do: For a Course is Not Applicable

Communicating with Students

Communication is extremely important when teaching in an online environment. Students can often feel isolated and neglected when there is not sufficient interaction with the instructor and classmates. Explain as clearly as you can what students can expect.  Tell them how you will communicate with them, where they can get help, and how they can complete your course successfully. Include the phone number of Canvas Support and District Help Desk URL.  For students who are new to Canvas, include the links to the Canvas Student Guide and Canvas Video Guide.  Remember that more than 90% of our students are enrolled in, at least, one class that is published in Canvas.

Canvas Announcements are the best way to share course news.  Students are able to choose the method they wish to receive course news via their Canvas notification preferences.  If you have a confidential message to send to a student, the inbox (Conversations) tool reaches them via their Canvas notification preferences as well.
