Journal prompt - Write 7-10 sentences about "credit score." How (specifically) is it determined? Why is it important?

Journal prompt - Consider the typical 30 year old adult. Write 7-10 sentences about the fixed, variable and periodic expenses that they might expect to pay during the month of December.

Classwork (lab B206) - Foolproof #5

Wednesday 12/9

Journal prompt - Write 7-10 sentences about checking accounts. How are they used? Why would you consider getting one? What can't you do if you don't have a checking account?

Classwork (lab B232) - Finish Foolproof #4&5 (both due Thursday at 8am), if they finish, they can work on the "week 7 extra credit project" (below)

Thursday 12/10 -

Journal prompt - Write 5-7 sentences about what you've learned from our DCU guest. Update your checkbooks

Classwork - DCU teacher coming in to discuss credit (she'll pretty much teach the class)

Friday 12/11

Journal prompt - A friend of yours is considering opening a checking account. Write a 7-10 sentence letter to him with advice for opening up his checking account.

Classwork (lab B206) - fooproof #6 (due Monday 12/21 at 8am), if they finish, they can work on the "week 7 extra credit project"

Week 7 Extra Credit Project (mandatory if you're done with your foolproofs) - Create a "holiday spending budget"

1) On a google doc, create a list of at least 10 expenses that you will (or could) have during the month of December (these expenses don't all have to be big)

2) List the amount of each expense with a reference link (for example: a link to the pair of shoes of the JC Penny website)

3) Create a budget for your 10+ expenses and share it with jcotter@assabet.org

Monday 12/21

Journal prompt - Write 7-10 sentences about credit cards. How are they used? Why would somebody want to get one? What do you need to consider if you get a credit card?

Journal prompt - How should you go about choosing the best credit card? What are important factors to consider? (7-10 sentences)

Classwork (B206) - Create a google doc. Find offers for 2 credit cards online (dcu.org can be one of them, provide links on your google doc). Compare at least 5 features of these 2 credit cards (APR, credit limit, etc). Explain which credit card you would choose and why. Share your doc with jcotter@assabet.org

Wednesday 12/23

Journal prompt - Write a list of 5-10 things that you'll "want" to buy over the next 4 weeks. Write a list of 5-10 things that you'll "need" to buy over the next 4 weeks.

Classwork (B232) - Catch up on foolproofs and your google doc assignment. If you're 100% caught up, you can do foolproof #11 for extra credit.

Monday 1/4

Thursday 1/7

Journal prompt - Consider all of your expenses from DCU's "get real" project. What other expenses might you have in real life? Discuss/explain (7-10 sentences)

Classwork (B232) - Catch up on foolproofs (all 4 episodes of foolproof #8 due Monday 1/11 at 8am)

Week 9 Extra Credit Project (mandatory if you're done with your foolproofs) - Create a "Let Get Real" Budget Spreadsheet

1) Create a google spreadsheet and title it "(your name) Let's get real budget"

2) List all of your expenses and income, use formulas to calculate your "bottom line" for each week, and carry over that "bottom line" to the next week. Do this for 4 weeks

3) Share your google spreadsheet with jcotter@assabet.org
