Week 17 & 18 Final Projects

Friday 5/20 - You have 2 options:

1) Catch up on any missing work: foolproofs, journal entries, etc..and hand your journals into the substitute teacher to be graded. Email Mr. C notifying him when you've complete your foolproofs.

2) Play a game of "financial football" with 1 other person (link below)

You will get a 20 point class participation grade that will be largely determined by your effort in class today.

Tuesday-Thursday Warm-up

Get with your group and briefly discuss your plans for your presentation (you will not be allowed to do this while your classmates are presenting).

Remember that you need to completely explain 5 things to the class:

1) What is your business selling?

2) How will you get your customers to buy from your over the "market leaders" in your industry?

3) What (and how much $) are your expenses?...both upfront expenses and day to day expenses

4) How much money will you business be taking every month (before expenses) and how, exactly, did you calculate that number?

5) Does your business make sense and will it make $?

Friday& Monday 5/13 & 5/16 Journal

Business Planners -> How much money will you need to start your business? Where are you going to get that money? Based on your financial projections, how long will it take you to pay that money back?

Financial Advisers -> What types of insurance would you suggest the typical person to get? What guidelines would you give someone as they decide on insurance policies?

Thursday 5/12 Journal

Business Planners -> What will you need to purchase in order to open your business? What types of equipment or building space will you need? How much do you think this will cost? How will you pay for it?

Financial Advisers -> Why is credit important? How can you get a good credit score? What benefits come with a good credit score?

Wednesday 5/11 Journal

Business Planners -> How much will you charge your customers (for a typical product or service)? How did you decide on that amount? How much does it cost for you to provide that product or service?

Financial Advisers -> Write 3 financial goals that "you client" has over the next 10 years. How do you suggest they budget their money to achieve those goals?

During class on Wednesday:

1) Presentation order will be selected. If you want to go first, tell Mr. C.

2) Class participation grades for the first 3 days of your work. Check in with Mr. C about what you've researched and accomplished so far.

Tuesday 5/10 Journal

Business planners -> What is your business? What is the product or service that you sell to your customers? Why will they buy from you?

Financial advisers -> Why is it important to set SMART goals? How will it help you with budgeting?

Monday 5/9 Journal - Given the 5 options below, what would you like to do for your final project? Explain why you would like to do what you picked. (7-10 sentences)

Goal for the day - Decide what type of project you will do, who you will work with & create an outline for that project.

You will have 5 options for your final project:

1) A 10-slide business plan presentation (Company name & mission statement, target market, competition, equipment needs, product & services, location & space, hiring employees, paying employees, cash-flow projection, financing)

Mr. C will give you worksheets to help guide you.

2) A 5- page written business plan (containing the same information as above)

3) 5-page "financial advice" paper done individually on google docs and shared with jcotter@assabet.org by 11am on Tuesday May 17th

4) A 4-7 minute "infomercial" done in a group of 2 or 3, presented in class on Tuesday May 17th (ready at the beginning of class)

5) A 4-7 minute "movie trailer" done in a group of 2 or 3, presented in class on Tuesday May 17th (ready at the beginning of class)

All papers and presentations must cover (or provide advice) for each of the major topics discussed in class ((SMART) financial goals, budgeting, credit, borrowing money, insurance, buying/renting property, saving and investing) optional topics: avoiding fraud, taxes)

Infomercials or movie trailers must...

-involve all group members (in significant roles)

-include a visual component (but don't read from a poster board)

-include advice on each major topic (SMART financial goals, budgeting, credit & credit scores, checking accounts, credit cards, avoiding fraud, taxes, insurance, buying/renting property & investing)

-include a "personal story" of the financial "highs and lows" of a character, or someone (made up) who followed your advice

ALL DOCS & PRESENTATIONS MUST BE SHARED WITH JCOTTER@ASSABET.ORG BY 11:00 AM ON TUESDAY May 17th! (OR YOU'LL LOSE 20% CREDIT IMMEDIATELY)

Your work on this Final project will count as 3 quizzes, 3 class participation grades, and 3 journal grades (all said and done, it will be almost half of your grade for the term).
