Who is Behind the Avatar? A Workshop and Challenge on Verifying Teleoperator Identity in Reenacted Avatar Videos
18th Asian Conference on Computer Vision (ACCV2026)
15 December 2026, Osaka, Japan
Photorealistic 2D and 3D avatars are increasingly used in telepresence, mixed reality, gaming, education, healthcare, and AI-mediated communication. Since an avatar’s appearance may differ from the person controlling it, conventional face recognition alone may not reliably establish who is behind the avatar.
The WBA workshop focuses on secure and trustworthy avatar-mediated interaction, with particular emphasis on appearance-independent teleoperator verification. It aims to bring together researchers in computer vision, biometrics, graphics, security, and human–computer interaction to advance avatar generation, behavioral authentication, evaluation, and responsible use.
Topics include, but are not limited to:
Teleoperator verification: appearance-agnostic authentication, cross-avatar verification, facial-motion dynamics, head pose, gaze, expression timing, and behavioral video embeddings.
Avatar security: impersonation, replay and presentation attacks, unauthorized avatar control, watermarking, provenance, and cross-generator robustness.
Privacy, fairness, and governance: consent, rights to likeness, template protection, demographic fairness, and responsible deployment.
Avatar generation and animation: 2D/3D avatars, neural rendering, motion transfer, audio-driven animation, controllability, realism, and temporal consistency.
Real-time tracking and control: expression retargeting, gaze and head-pose tracking, lip synchronization, low-latency rendering, and resource-efficient systems.
Evaluation and applications: datasets, benchmarks, identity fidelity, realism, latency, telepresence, AR/VR, accessibility, healthcare, education, and entertainment.
