This week is only four days. Please make sure your child is at school and ready to learn. All students need a water bottle as we are still incurring ht summer temps this week. All students should also have a change of clothing in the backpack for emergencies. Help is appreciated to make sure your child has both.
Our cookie fundraising event is still happening! Please, Please, Please try and sell 5 or more items. Last year our kindergarten did not sell enough to go on a field trip for the first time in 35 years. We need everyone to help raise money for our grade level graduation celebration and field trip event(s). The cookie dough is suer yummy and there are many other items to buy/sell. All efforts to participate and earn are appreciated.
All students will be receiving a new AVID Homework Agenda for September. Please note that beginning this week your child will be practicing 12 new sight words each month. Practicing reading sight words is part of our 10 minute reading routine outlined on the AVID Homework Agenda. The state of AZ requires kindergarten students to be able to read at least 50/100 high frequency sight words (AZCCRS K.RF.3c: Read 50 common high-frequency words by sight from a research-based word list ). All 100 sight words are listed in your child's AVID binder. Students will read and learn a new sight words and bring home a matching book daily to read for homework and list on the monthly reading log. The goal is again, 20 books read each month. Help is appreciated to help make your child successful in school by helping and encouraging homework practice each evening. Children must practice to be successful. Engineering for September is due this week! Your child should be creating an apple out of a paper plate (Arizona Science Standards (AzSS) Alignment: K.L1U1.6). Please see more about our classroom projects and engineering on this site "PROJECTS" page. The apple engineering project will be due by Monday September 14th for use in our monthly Show & Tell. Your child receives 100 points towards engineering/science and 100 points for Reading (listening & speaking). There is a speaking template located in your childs AVID binder to practice and prepare for show & tell.
Binders will be assessed each month. Please clear your child's binder of cluttered old papers/work. Make sure plastic pages are in correct sequence as stated on the binder contents form. The zipper pouch must contain pencil(s), a sharpener, wipe-off marker(s), and an eraser. All contents were given to your child free on first week of school. We are assessing AVID respect and responsibility for our organizational tools ( Arizona Social Studies Standard K.C1.1 (Applying values of respect and responsibility).To understand this better please see the contents (pg.1) of your child's AVID binder.
Birthdays are coming up for many students in our Palmcroft kindergarten. Parents may send in healthy treats/snacks to celebrate a birthday party on the child's special day. Please text your teacher on ClassDojo for a classroom count of students (we get new students and may lose students each month). Healthy birthday snacks can be the following: anything with all natural ingredients, no dyes: Goldfish, freeze dried fruits, fruit bars, apple slices or real fruit, SkinnyPop popcorn snack, Yogurt pops, pretzels, granola bars, animal crackers,rice crispy treats, fruit mini muffins, trailmix, healthy oatmeal cookies,Sun Chips, Kind Bars, Brainiac applesauce pouches, Ritz crackers, and Sam's Club chocolate or vanilla cupcakes w/ whipped frosting only. We want to celebrate birthdays at school but we need to follow the healthy snack and food guide given to parents the first week of school. Please note this is an Arizona state law for all public schools on Free lunch.
