Charlotte High School

Class Information

Course Description:

The fundamental purpose of this course is to formalize and extend the mathematics that students learned in the middle grades. The critical areas, called units, deepen and extend understanding of linear and exponential relationships by contrasting them with each other and by applying linear models to data that exhibit a linear trend, and students engage in methods for analyzing, solving, and using quadratic functions. The Standards for Mathematical Practice apply throughout each unit, and together with the content standards, prescribe that students experience mathematics as coherent, useful, and logical subject that makes use of their ability to make sense of problem situations.

Policies and Procedures:

* All rules set by Charlotte High School and CCPS will apply.

* The use of any electronic device is PROHIBITED (except calculator and Chromebooks).*

* Students are expected to treat others and themselves with respect.

* Online homework assignments are due at 11:59 pm on the due date. No extensions will be given.

* Please leave food outside the classroom, water is acceptable.

* Cell phones must be placed in student's backpacks at the beginning of class.*

* “Student use of cellular phones or other electronic or wireless devices is strictly prohibited at any time once the school day begins unless specific permission is granted by a teacher or administrator or is specific to an IEP or 504 plan.” Charlotte County Public Schools’ Code of Student Conduct 2020-2021 pg. 27

Homework:

Homework will be entirely online this school year. Homework assignments will consist of MyHRW and Algebra Nation. Students who do not have a computer and/or internet at home can come in before or after school to work on the assignment. Students will need to submit their work in class to receive full credit for the assignment.

Late Policy:

Students will lose 10% each day an assignment is late up to 3 days late. After three days late, the assignment will no longer be accepted.

Extra Credit:

There will be two types of extra credit. The first type of extra credit is Edgenuity's Virtual Tutorial program to help prepare the student for the Algebra 1 EOC. The second type of extra credit is solving FSA-type problems for the current unit of study in which the student must show all work.

Absent:

If a student is absent, he or she will need to check Google Classroom for the work he or she missed. Foldable templates, notes, and class agenda will be upload daily. I will also include instructional videos to help students who miss class, so they do not fall behind. Furthermore, two additional resources that are great for watching instructional videos on math topics is Algebra Nation and Khan Academy.

Test/Quiz Make-Up:

Students must schedule a time or times before or after school to take a quiz or test he or she missed. It is my philosophy that if he or she will get further behind if he or she takes the test or quiz he or she missed. It is also frowned upon to have students come during school because all class are important. Please make arrangements with your student to take the quiz before or after school.

Grading:

All grading is bases upon a total points system. Parents and students are encouraged to check FOCUS regularly.

Unit Tests - 100 pts

Critical Concept Checkpoints - 50 pts

Classwork/Homework/Projects - 5-50 pts

Algebra Nation - 40 pts

Focus Gradebook Codes:

X = Excused

CCCNF = Critical Concept Checkpoint Not Finished (will not calculate into grade until I put it in)

CCCNT = Critical Concept Checkpoint Not Taken (counts as a zero until made up)

TNF = Test Not Finished (will not calculate into grade until I put it in)

TNT = Test Not Taken (counts as a zero until made up)

IP = In Progress (will not calculate into grade until I put it in)

M = Missing (counts as a zero until made up or turned in)

0 = Student did not complete as requested/cheating

Google Classroom:

Students will have access to Google Classroom to access assignments, notes, and school related announcements. Parent's if you would like to receive notifications from Google Classroom please email which your preferred email. The Google Classroom notification will show you the agenda I have posted and the homework assignment. If you have any questions, please email me. :)

Google Classroom Codes:

Period 2: z6huanu

Period 5: bpr5jwh

Period 7: 2y537ki

I take plagiarism very seriously. Any work that is not your own will receive a zero and discipline action taken. I also take a testing environment very seriously. If you disrupt the testing environment (tests, quizzes, district assessments, etc.) by talking or using any body language, you will receive a zero and discipline action taken.
