Second graders recently participated in an exciting series of lessons focused on the importance of ESTEAM (Empathy, Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) and how technology can positively impact their community.

Students engaged in a hands-on gardening robot challenge where they learned how to program robots (Ozobots) to assist in various tasks. This activity highlighted the role of coding in making jobs easier and more efficient.

To conclude their lessons, each student received a large map of the Yorktown community. They explored various ways to contribute positively to their surroundings. Teams were given challenge cards that outlined specific missions, guiding them to program their robots to navigate to different checkpoints on the map.
This initiative not only enhanced their coding skills but also reinforced the significance of community involvement and teamwork. Way to go, second graders!
