A great first year is in the books for our modified sports teams!
Introduced this fall, Yorktown CSD’s new modified sports program offered 7th and 8th graders the chance to compete in structured team sports. The program kicked off with boys volleyball, cross country, and field hockey teams, each with a season marked by progress and accomplishments.
Boys volleyball coach Julia Fiore shared her pride in the team's accomplishments, noting the strong interest that led to the formation of two teams, White and Green. Both teams ended with a 6-3 record and capped the season by winning first and second place at the first-ever Yorktown Boys Modified Volleyball Tournament. Coach Fiore credited the school’s PE staff for laying a strong foundation in the volleyball unit, which sparked enthusiasm among the players. "We had so much fun along the way! From practices to exciting matches, the boys always brought their energy and passion to the court. The dedication and effort exhibited by our players throughout the season truly paid off, and we are so excited about what the future holds for our volleyball program.”
Cross country coach John Nicol was thrilled with his team’s success and dedication. For most of the team’s 53 student-athletes, it was their first running experience. The team went undefeated in all regular meets and celebrated a high point at the Port Chester Invitational, winning both the 7th-grade girls' and 8th-grade boys' races. "I'm hoping we can build upon this for the future and the 7th graders are already excited about coming back next year,” Coach Nicol shared.
Field hockey coach Danielle Stabile also praised her athletes for their hard work and growth. Facing tough competition, the team developed essential skills and laid a solid foundation for the program. Coach Stabile added, "Over the season, the girls progressed and developed new skills! It was a great first modified season and we continue for the program to continue and grow!"
Yorktown CSD is thrilled to provide our students with the opportunity to experience the many benefits of modified sports, including physical fitness, athletic and leadership skill development, teamwork, and the chance to represent their school with pride!
