We are proud to announce that Yorktown High School senior Julia Whalen has been named a semifinalist in the prestigious 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program. This honor places Julia among the top-performing high school seniors in the nation!
The National Merit Scholarship Corporation released the names of over 16,000 semifinalists in this year's competition. These outstanding students now have the chance to compete for a share of nearly $28 million in National Merit Scholarships, which will be awarded next spring.
Out of the more than 1.3 million juniors from around 21,000 high schools who took the 2022 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, less than 1% were named semifinalists.
About 95% of the semifinalists are expected to attain finalist standing, and approximately half of the finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the title of Merit Scholar.
