The Yorktown Central School District is thrilled to welcome Jennifer Jacobs as the new principal of Crompond Elementary School!
Before joining Crompond over the summer, Ms. Jacobs said she was already familiar with the District’s reputation for having a strong academic program and a supportive community, sharing that “Yorktown is a district that others look to for ideas.”
So, how does she feel about Yorktown three weeks into the school year?
“It’s everything I heard it was. It’s a great place to be. The parents have been wonderful and the staff is super welcoming and supportive.”
Ms. Jacobs comes to the Yorktown CSD with a decade of administrative experience in neighboring school districts: four as a principal in Pawling and six as an assistant principal in Briarcliff. Prior to her administrative roles, she served as a first-grade teacher.
A mother of three, Ms. Jacobs said her favorite part of being Crompond’s principal is connecting with the students, whether it’s in the hallway, in the classroom, or at lunchtime.
Ms. Jacobs noted that Crompond (grades 4-5) holds a special place within the Yorktown CSD, acting as a transition between a student’s primary school experience and the middle school. She sees Crompond as a place where students are supported and feel safe to take risks and grow as individuals.
“It’s an important two years for students.”.
Ms. Jacobs also expressed excitement about ESTEAM, the District’s nationally recognized, award-winning approach that places empathy at the forefront of STEAM education. Ms. Jacobs said she is impressed with her teachers’ proactive approach to weaving the principles of ESTEAM into their lesson plans — something she looks forward to seeing more of in the 2023-24 school year!
