Crompond is buzzing with excitement for Computer Science Education Week (December 4-10)!
At the December 4 Board of Education meeting, students and staff showcased their cutting-edge approach to learning and their commitment to ESTEAM.
Principal Jen Jacobs highlighted the school's strides in meeting Computer Science and Digital Fluency standards, while Tech Specialist Amanda Burns praised their innovative integration of tech tools like Lego Spike, Minecraft, and more.
“To anyone unfamiliar with these tools, it may seem like they’re simply playing games or having fun. However, a closer look reveals the impressive skills and practices students acquire through these tools,” Ms. Burns noted.
Ms. Burns emphasized the development of the “four Cs” (creativity, critical thinking, communication, and collaboration), along with troubleshooting, debugging, and approaching design and engineering with an empathetic objective.
Students are diving deep into coding and algorithms, engineering prototypes, crafting sustainable life on other planets using Minecraft, and even reimagining real-world events through tech projects. They’re also acing digital citizenship with lessons on cellphone safety, cyberbullying, and smart internet habits.
As one student put it, “In this digital fluent world, we are looking forward to a future where classrooms are not just spaces for learning, but places that inspire, engage, and support the dream of every student.”
