On April 14-16, the Yorktown High School Wind Ensemble had an unforgettable experience participating in the Rhythms International Music Festival held in Washington, D.C.
The students had the privilege of performing for a panel of nationally and internationally recognized music educators and received valuable feedback during a clinic session. Their hard work and dedication paid off, as they earned the rating of “Superior” at the festival. Bravo!
Another highlight of the weekend was watching the various D.C. military bands march in the Cherry Blossom Parade. The students also attended a National Symphony Orchestra concert and took a backstage tour of the historic John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
The Wind Ensemble also took a tour of Arlington National Cemetery where they saw John F. Kennedy's Eternal Flame. This experience was especially meaningful for the students as one of the festival pieces they were studying, "Elegy for a Young American," was composed in memory of JFK.
