At the December 5 Board of Education meeting, we were proud to honor three women whose quick action helped save the life of a colleague at Mildred E. Strang Middle School.
On the morning of November 7, a custodial worker suffered a significant medical emergency. Fortunately, two members of our Aramark food service team, Kimberly Kleiber and Nancy Rizzo, quickly called for assistance. School nurse Jena McLaughlin sprung into action, assessed the situation, and quickly provided intervention until emergency responders arrived at the school.
We would also like to commend our middle school administration, who quickly activated our emergency response procedures to limit movement through the building to ensure first responders could proceed without delay.
Thanks to the quick and decisive actions of Kim, Nancy, and Jena, we are happy to share that our employee is recovering from this medical incident. We wish them the best in their recovery. The heroism that Kim, Nancy, and Jena displayed that morning in a stressful situation was recognized at the BOE meeting. They received certificates of appreciation, bouquets of flowers, and angels that were made by middle school tech students.
Our school district thanks these terrific women for the lifesaving and heroic actions they took that morning to help another human being. We are so proud of you.
