National Athletic Training Month, which is celebrated in March, is a time to recognize the crucial role that athletic trainers play in the prevention and proper recovery of injuries. At the Yorktown Central School District, we are very fortunate to have Justin Giuliano as our head athletic trainer and we celebrate his commitment to keeping our students safe.
Justin brings a wealth of experience to his role. Before coming to Yorktown in 2019, he spent many years working with Davison 1 athletes at Rutgers University and Marist College. During this time, Justin said he noticed a concerning trend with incoming freshman who had suffered relatively minor injuries at the interscholastic level. Without proper guidance and treatment from athletic trainers, the injuries often failed to heal correctly, leading to preventable surgeries and long-term damage.
Justin’s passion for treating young students drew him back to the world of interscholastic sports, where he works tirelessly to ensure that our students can continue to enjoy the sports they love for as long as possible. Along with injury treatment and emergency response, Justin’s role also involves extensive preparation work, including stocking first-aid kits, checking equipment, and ensuring that students stay properly hydrated.
In addition to his work with students, Justin also enjoys the educational aspect of his work, which includes personally training all YCSD coaches on first aid and CPR.
As we celebrated National Athletic Training Month, we express our gratitude to Justin and all of the athletic trainers who are dedicated to maintaining a safe and healthy environment for our students.
