Thank you to everyone who made the second annual “Charlie Strong” boys basketball game such a special night.
The school community came out in large numbers to the January 20 game to support senior captain Charlie DeGennaro. The game between the Huskers and John Jay was not only a celebration of Charlie’s courage, but also a fundraiser for Blythedale Children’s Hospital.
Funds were raised through the sale of t-shirts, which were produced by Sports Barn. Yorktown Pizza & Pasta, which sold food at the game, also showed support by donating its revenue to the hospital.
Head Coach Mark Pavella praised Charlie for embodying everything about what a good attitude is, and his teammates echoed this sentiment. Senior captain Justin Price stated that Charlie “keeps his head up high and fights his fight every single day.”
Charlie expressed his gratitude to the community for coming out and supporting the Blythedale Children’s Hospital, which he called “a really special place.” He also thanked his coaches, teammates, and the entire basketball program for their support.
“Most of all, I want to thank my family for always believing in me.”
On the court, the Huskers came away with a 59-29 win!
