The December 5 Board of Education meeting included a wonderful presentation by some of our Brookside kindergarten students, who showed off their coding skills by programming their KIBO robots to do the Hokey Pokey!
District tech specialist Alyssa Arroyo said the goal was to introduce coding to the young students in a fun and simple way.
“What better way than with a playful robot?” Ms. Arroyo said.
The KIBO robotics kits allow students to use wooden programming blocks with barcodes to build, code, and decorate their own robots.
Superintendent Dr. Ron Hattar said he was very impressed by the students. “These are kindergarten students, and what they’re doing is remarkable in the area of coding and robotics.”
Brookside Principal Joseph Cassarini said the presentation was a perfect example of the District's continuing ESTEAM initiatives.
“This presentation not only shows a developmental step for our students, but also our growth as an educational institution," Principal Cassarini said. "It shows how far we have come over the last five years, but yet it is not a culmination. It is merely a stepping stone in our growth as educators and students.”
