That’s giving a new meaning to the term “sheet music.”
On Friday, Sept. 23, third-grade students at Brookside learned to play a new song by turning a piece of paper into a musical instrument.
After a lesson about notes, music teacher Mrs. Berger taught the students how to play “Hot Cross Buns” – a three-note song.
District tech specialist Mrs. Arroyo then used Makey Makey to connect the students’ Chromebooks to pieces of paper with piano keys printed on them. In addition to learning a new song, the students were given the task of setting up their paper pianos by creating a closed circuit, which included holding their classmates’ hands.
The result was an exciting way to learn and play music! After mastering the technology aspect of the lesson, the students were eager to recite their songs for Mrs. Berger and Mrs. Arroyo.
