Vandalism
Any incidents of vandalism or theft of District-owned, rented or leased property, and the names of the person(s) believed to be responsible shall be reported to the Superintendent. At the discretion of the Superintendent, the police may be called to investigate any incident of vandalism to District property.
If the responsible party is a student, they may be subject to consequences in accordance with the District Code of Conduct.
If the responsible party is a staff member, they will be subject to discipline in accordance with law and any applicable collective bargaining agreement.
If the responsible party is a visitor to the schools, they will be subject to legal action and consequences in accordance with the District Code of Conduct.
If repair or replacement of property is required, a bill for labor and materials will be sent to the responsible party with a request for payment. The Board may determine that legal action against the responsible party should be brought to recover costs for damages, as State Law permits, caused by willful, malicious or unlawful acts. Parent(s)/Guardian(s) may be held liable for the acts of their child. The Board will also determine whether to offer monetary rewards, as State Law permits, for information leading to the arrest and conviction of vandals or thieves of District property. All information pertaining to the investigation will be forwarded to the school attorney and appropriate authorities.
