When a student is identified with head lice, the parents will be notified and encouraged to pick up their child at school and call their pediatrician for treatment recommendations. The School Nurse will provide lice information to the parents. The student may be readmitted to school the following day, provided that appropriate treatment has been given and no evidence of live lice is found upon examination by the School Nurse.
The management of head lice should not substantially disrupt the education process. In the event of a widespread infestation, and upon the recommendation of the School Physician, the District reserves the right to require students to remain out of school and all school-related activities if there are viable lice in their hair.
