Head Lice (Pediculosis)

The Board recognizes that management of head lice depends upon prompt case identification, effective treatment and education regarding preventing the spread of them. It is the policy of this District that when a student is identified with head lice, the parents will be notified and asked to pick up the child at school, and will be provided with instructions regarding the treatment of head lice. The student may be readmitted to school the following day, provided that appropriate treatment has been given and no evidence of live lice is found upon examination by the school Nurse.

The management of head lice should not substantially disrupt the education process. In the event of a widespread infestation, and upon the recommendation of the School Physician, the District reserves the right to require students to remain out of school and all school-related activities if there are viable lice eggs (nits) in their hair.
