Student Wellness

In accordance with Section 204 of Public Health Law 108-265, the Yorktown Central School District has developed the following policy, standards and procedures. The Yorktown Central School District is committed to providing school environments that promote and protect children’s health, well-being, and ability to learn by supporting healthy eating and physical activity.

  • The District will engage students, parents, teachers, food service professionals, health professionals, and other interested community members in developing, implementing, monitoring, and reviewing District-wide nutrition and physical activity policies.

  • All students in grades K-12 will have opportunities, support, and encouragement to be physically active on a regular basis.

  • Foods and beverages sold or served in school during the school day will meet the nutrition recommendations of the U.S. Dietary Guideline’s for Americans.

  • Qualified child nutrition professionals will provide students with access to a variety of affordable, nutritious, and appealing foods that meet the health and nutrition needs of students, and will provide a clean, safe, and pleasant setting and adequate time for students to eat.

  • To the maximum extent required by regulation, all schools in the District will participate in available federal school meal programs (including the School Breakfast Program and the National School Lunch Program).

  • Schools will provide nutrition education and physical education to foster lifelong habits of healthy eating and physical activity and will establish linkages between elementary and secondary health and physical education and school meal programs, and related community services.

  • This policy will be distributed to all employees, individuals and/or groups who utilize the buildings and grounds of the Yorktown Central School District. School policies concerning safety will apply at all times.

  • The Board of Education and Wellness Committee realize that budget restraints, school building limitations and practices in the schools with respect to nutrition, preclude immediate implementation of certain actions called for in this policy. Progress in implementing such actions over time will be reported to the Board on an annual basis.
