Homework

Homework is an extension of classroom instruction and provides opportunities for developing good study habits and individual responsibility. Homework shall not be assigned for disciplinary purposes.

Planning homework assignments should be given as much care as the planning of any other aspect of a lesson. Homework that is important enough to be assigned must be considered worthy of teacher evaluation and feedback to students in a timely manner.

Homework shall be assigned according to the guidelines below. Since the individual student's needs, interests, and abilities are the most important factors in assigning homework, the following time allotments are only guidelines for assigning homework. There shall also be times when class work does not lend itself to homework for a period of time. Homework shall not be due on the first day of school following an extended recess period.
