Complaints about Curricula or Instructional Materials

Any criticism of instructional materials that are in the schools that cannot be resolved informally will be submitted in writing to the Superintendent or designee. An Instructional Materials Review Committee, consisting of the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, two Elementary and/or Secondary classroom teachers, an Elementary and/or Secondary Principal or Assistant Principal, a library media specialist, and other designees as determined by the Superintendent, will investigate and judge the challenged material. The Superintendent will designate a chair for the committee.

The committee will make recommendations to the Superintendent concerning the disposition of the complaint, and the Superintendent will issue a decision. This decision may be appealed to the Board within 10 days of the receipt of the Superintendent’s decision. The decision of the Board will be final.
