The Principal or designee is responsible for all persons in the building and on the school grounds.
For these reasons, the following rules apply to visitors to the schools:
1. Anyone who is not a regular staff member or student of that school building, District administrators, Board Members on official Board of Education business, central office staff members, or operations and maintenance staff will be considered a visitor.
2. District officers and employees on official business are required to present their District issued identification badge in lieu of receiving a visitor’s identification badge. District officers and employees not on official business will follow normal visitor procedures.
3. Visitors to each school building will be required to:
a. cooperate with any exterior and interior safety checkpoints upon arriving on campus
b. enter and exit through designated single point of entry
c. follow the District Code of Conduct and all school rules
d. submit a valid driver’s license or other form of acceptable photo identification upon request to be used as a reference in the databases of registered sex offenders
e. sign in at the visitor log book, providing requested information
f. prominently display temporary visitor’s ID and sign out at the visitor checkpoint.
4. Visitors attending school functions that are open to the public after regular school hours, such as parent teacher organization meetings or public gatherings, may not be required to register.
5. Teachers will not take class time to discuss individual matters with visitors.
6. Visitors will not be permitted to observe classes without written consent from the Principal and the Superintendent or designee.
7. Any unauthorized person on school property will be reported to the Principal or designee. Unauthorized persons will be asked to leave. The police may be called if the situation warrants.
8. All visitors are expected to abide by the rules for public conduct on school property contained in the District Code of Conduct. Any visitor who does not abide by the District Code of Conduct will be considered an unauthorized person and will be asked to leave and may be barred from returning to school grounds either temporarily or permanently.
9. Any person who does not have children enrolled in the school may not tour the school buildings or visit classrooms during school hours without approval from the Principal.
10. Inspection of school records or interviews, in accordance with Board policy, must be conducted on school premises and must comply with all applicable Board policies and administrative regulations. The Principal, in conjunction with the Superintendent, will determine the location.
11. The Principal is authorized to take any action necessary to secure the safety of students and school personnel. Unauthorized visitors will be requested to leave school premises immediately, and will be subject to arrest and prosecution for trespassing, pursuant to the New York State Penal Law, if they refuse.
