Relations with School-Related Organizations
The Board encourages the support and participation of school-related organizations such as Huskers, First Nighters, Parent Teacher Associations, Science Research, and Foundation for Excellence.
These organizations can be a valuable means of stimulating community interest in the aims and activities of District schools. The following are the goals of school-related organizations:
to involve parents and school personnel in a cooperative and sustained system of activities which will increase the educational opportunities of the children both in school and at home;
to sustain parent interest through a program of training and consulting services; and
to foster community support and raise funds for the District’s programs.
The Board may designate Board members to act as liaisons to school-related organizations.
School-related organizations may be created to promote community support and raise funds for specific school activities or programs. These groups, while independent of the District, must be recognized by Board approval prior to engaging in fundraising. All school-related organizations must follow all applicable policies including, but not limited to, fundraising, wellness, and facilities use policies.
Parents and other interested members of the community who wish to organize a school-related organization must receive approval from the Superintendent or their designee. School-related organizations must follow these guidelines:
Be voluntary and support a District or school activity or program.
Fundraising must be approved in advance by the Superintendent or designee.
Any time the school-related organization uses the name of the District, or language suggesting that the District has endorsed, sponsored, or otherwise approved the activities, there must be prior written approval by the Superintendent or designee.
The organization must understand and respect the authority of the District employees in the administration of their duties.
Any school-related organizations wishing to donate goods, services, and/or funds must submit a completed Gifts/Grants/Donation form available in all schools and District offices.
Assume all financial responsibility for their organization including, but not limited to, the provision of adequate insurance coverage, as appropriate.
Athletic organizations must be cognizant of Title IX implications of their fundraising, donations, and gifts.
The Board does not assume any financial responsibility for school-related organizations and, further, does not assume any liability such organizations may incur.
The Board retains final authority on all activities which have an impact on students, the schools, school programs, and/or school-owned property.
