'Hey! I’m Clara, the Accessibility Lead for this year! I've worked for the University's Disability Community Project, and co-ordinated Swing Dance's Student Communities' lesson. I’m passionate about accessibility, to the point where I sent a ten-page proposal to the student union and accidentally helped set this scheme up...
Swing dance gave me a wonderful community and I want to share this with as many people as possible. You may not see me in person much this year as I am on exchange in Italy, but I’m working hard behind the scenes (I may have made us a website instead of packing), and I’m always happy to answer any questions!'
Please note that we do not have any specific experience with teaching students with disabilities (and there are unfortunately not many resources available), and so we will try our best to accommodate but we cannot say that all moves will be accessible to everyone.
Swing Dance is a vernacular dance- this means that it is always changing and very adaptable. We will try our best to adapt moves to suit different people. It would be helpful to let us know in advance of any specific needs so we can let our teachers know so that they can prepare some ideas about adaptations, but please note that we will not be able to adapt everything, particularly given time constraints.
We hope everyone can enjoy our lessons safely and comfortably. If something doesn't feel right, the best way to let us know is to contact us.
