YMS Building Accomplishments

1. Grow Your Own

   • Each year we have MS students as Successful Friends and Teacher Aides; helping fellow students in the classroom

2. Connections/Recruitment

   • Continue the talks with York University

   • Seeking ways to increase the number of paraprofessionals/substitute teachers

3. Mentorship Program

   • Revamped the previous mentorship guidelines

   • Identified mentees for this school year

   • Started a regular occurrence of Instructional Rounds

   • Intentional meeting times were set for mentee/mentor to meet

   • Set a date to go to York University to speak to college students during their Chapel time to promote K-12 Education and becoming a teacher

   • Teachers visiting Education classes at York University to visit with current Education Majors

3. Mentorship Program

   • Work on developing a 2nd year Mentoring program

   • Identify mentees that need support in year two

   • Match new Mentees for the school year 2025-26 to mentors

   • Make, if needed, any adjustments or tweeks to the new Mentor program that was used in 2024-25 school year

   • Continue to schedule designated times for Mentee/Mentor to meet 

4. Promotion of YMS/York

   • Create a flyer about YMS to give potential candidates at interviews/job fairs

   • Create a flyer to give new hires about the community of York and the resources needed to adapt to a new city
