Biography
After qualifying as a psychotherapist, Beverley Costa set up a therapeutic service, Mothertongue multi-ethnic counselling service (2000-2018), for multilingual clients. In 2009 she established a pool of mental health interpreters who interpreted for therapy clients. In 2010 she created the national Bilingual Therapist and Mental Health Interpreter Forum. She has advised on NICE Guidelines and she has trained over 5,000 therapists for NHS services and NGOs in working therapeutically across languages and with interpreters. She won the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Equality and Diversity Research Award together with Professor Jean-Marc Dewaele for their cross-disciplinary research on multilingualism in psychotherapy.
