The land of chocolates, cheese and watches

Hey everyone,
After a very intense week preparing our palaeo-stand for YorNight last Saturday, this week I'll be visiting Switzerland to scan our first batch of mink skulls. The curator at the Muséum d’Histoire Naturelle de Genève was kind enough to loan me the skulls in their collection so that I could bring them to Basel and scan them together with those of the Naturhistorisches Museum (NMB).
Yesterday I spent the day travelling from York, to Manchester (airport), to Geneva, to Bern (train switch), to Basel, to France because yes, my hotel is across the border in Saint-Louis, France. Can't wait to do that again in reverse next Saturday... Gotta say though, this morning was kinda funny to change countries on my way to work!
Anyway, today I picked up the skulls at NMB and brought them to the Biomaterials Science Center at Uni Basel, where we started scanning them. I'll add some gifs somewhere on the page to the Aims section so that you can see how cool microCT stacks are! Funny note: turns out coming to the land of watches from a culture where 15 minutes late is considered kinda "on time" can create the weirdest interactions... Won't say more to keep things civil ;)
Until next update,
Eloy
14Feb2020 Edit: Thanks to the amazing and welcoming staff at BSC (gonna miss you, guys!) we were able to finish scanning with a day to spare, so what better way of spending Valentine's alone in a foreign country than having fondue-for-one and spending the afternoon at Basel zoo! Definitely worth a visit if you're in Basel. Check the pics below!
