Medical Needs
School Nursing
School nurses have a designated role as a key contributor to the early years' development of a child which targets the health and emotional needs of school children and young people. School nurses as Specialist Community Public Health Nurses (School Nursing) (SCPHN SN) graduates are qualified to provide holistic, individualised community and population level public health services. The School Nursing Service offers support and advice to children, young people and their families or carers to help ensure that they reach their full potential during their school years and beyond.
The age range covered is 5 up to 18. Children and young people can access the service if they attend school in their area.

Where is this service provided?
There is a Named School Nurse allocated to each secondary school in Pembrokeshire. Generally the same nurse covers the primary schools that feed into that secondary school. Additional qualified nurses may attend schools in the absence of the named school nurse for delegated intervention.
School Nurses are based in a variety of settings including Health Centres, hospitals, GP surgeries and Schools. They all have rooms that they share in the secondary schools for their school based confidential ”Drop In” clinics.
Parents and carers of children and young people can contact the School Nurse for their individual school on the telephone numbers below.
If children or young people do not attend mainstream secondary schools they are still entitled to access the School Nurse that covers their area, although this may mean signposting to other services.
