During Year 6, Mrs Martin visits our Primary School learners as part of the Transition process. We complete fun activities on their thoughts and worries about moving to a new school.
Year 7 attend small intervention groups for Literacy and Numeracy. We can allocate a Sixth Form Mentor to help them settle into school and get used to the new routine. They can help in the Refectory and around the school at break times to check in with learners. We have found this to be beneficial as some learners respond better to learners than staff.
Year 9 Learners are given support with choosing their Options, through Parents Evenings and meetings with learners.
Organised Career Fairs and University Visits are available for Year 9-11 Learners. This enables them to make better informed choices for their Further Education
To engage all eFSM learners in particular, we run a free breakfast club every morning in the refectory from 8.30am - 8.45am (however all learners are welcome to attend breakfast club).
If learners have concerns about their exams or post-16 options etc... these questions can be resolved. Our school Careers Officer will meet with all Year 10 learners during the first term to discuss their further education choice after leaving school. Sixth Form, college or apprenticeships for example. As part of our support programme Year 10 are offered Coursework Intervention Days on Saturdays, in core subjects areas. These are informal and very well attended days. eFSM learners in Year 11 also benefit from half termly mentoring with a member of the senior leadership team to track their progress and build their confidence.
During Year 11 is where the core focus of learning and support happens. Access to additional learning support sessions can be arranged wit our on-site Learning Coach Mr. Madras, who can help learners in particular with Maths and English coursework completion as well as other general option subject support.
Over the last two years the school has benefitted from LEA funding for the "FACE Project" which supports eFSM families in need of re-engagement with education. We are awaiting confirmation of funding for this programme to run in 2025/26.
Homework/Revision Club are generally available within all subject areas, many running throughout the year, but most start up from March onwards in the build up to the final exams.
External GCSE conferences are held during the Spring Term. For the last 3 years the school has worked in partnership with UWTSD and y Partneriaeth to deliver examination revision guidance for GCSE English and Mathematics. Learners really engage with this experience. It's a non-uniform day with lunch provided.
Free school meals will only be provided for learners who receive or whose parents receive one of the following benefits: Income Support. Income Based Jobseekers Allowance (IBJSA). ... Child Tax Credits only, with an annual household Income of under £16,190 *
This is under review for the new Universal Credit. For more information Contact PCC County Hall Haverfordwest.

This can be a very difficult time for both learners and their families. It's normal to feel some nerves when exams are approaching. We work on ways to cope, so stress doesn't affect learners revision or their health.
Scroll down for more advice....
You won't be alone in feeling under pressure about exams - it's likely your classmates are also finding this time stressful too
A small amount of stress can be good for you - it can motivate you to do better or help you focus on overcoming a difficult situation
However, too much stress can negatively impact your health. It's important to recognise the signs of stress so you can do something about them
Signs of Stress include:
A loss of appetite
Sudden weight loss or gain
Feeling anxious
Difficulty concentrating
Feeling emotional
Struggling to sleep
Go outside for exercise and fresh air - it will help you clear your head
Set aside time to meet up with your friends when you are not revising
Give yourself relaxation time - listen to music , watch TV or doze outside in the sun
Keep up with your hobbies and doing activities you enjoy
Eating and Sleeping well can also help to reduce stress
Talking to friends, family and teachers can really help you air your anxieties and come up with a way to deal with your stress. If you don't feel comfortable talking to people you know, there are support services and helplines you can talk to confidentially.
WAYS TO MAKE IT WORSE!
Don't revise late into the evening - this will affect your sleep and make you tired
Not taking adequate breaks will make your revision time less effective
Don't set unrealistic targets or you will always disappoint yourself
Exams are important, but they are not worth affecting your health. Make sure you take time out from revision to do things you enjoy - not only will this make you happier, it will make revising easier.

Our learners can come into school early for breakfast before their exam. Good nutrition before an exam is vital. This is a time to check if they have all the equipment they need for the exam. Stationary and calculators are available to use. This is a good last minute revision session too!
The school also accesses funding in order to provide all eFSM learners with a fully equipped exam ready pencil case.
