At Mesa View, one of our jobs is to get students to start thinking of their future beyond middle school and high school.
Between grades 7 and 12 all students in the district will have access to and complete activities utilizing the website californiacolleges.edu. During the fall semester all seventh graders will create their californiacolleges.edu account and will then complete their first activity titled "Learning Styles Inventory". Personalized results from the "Learning Styles Inventory" will provide recommendations and descriptions for each student to assist them in enhancing how they learn to best optimize their academics both now and in the future.
During January, our 8th grade students will complete their second californiacolleges.edu activity, the "Interest Profiler". This activity will generate a personalized list of potential careers for each student and those results will be saved in the student's californiacolleges.edu account for future reference.
Sixth graders will participate in an introduction to career exploration through "The Career Game Explorer" book.
All of these activities increase student awareness and understanding of what happens after high school. To some, it might seem a bit early to start thinking about this, but it's really never too early. Knowing what classes you want to take in high school, and what college and career options these choices might lead to, are critical decisions.
Take an assessment to see what you might be interested doing.
Do some research to see what your choices entail.
Develop a budget to make sure your choices can support your plan.
California Colleges.edu provides students with an all-inclusive guide for their college and career paths. Complete an interest profiler which will match you with potential careers or search for careers you are curious about exploring.
