Why is there a Board vacancy?
Mr. Bob Miller, a Trustee with the Yucaipa-Calimesa Unified School District Governing Board, representing Area 5, has tendered his resignation. The resignation became effective on December 10, 2024, upon receipt by the Superintendent of the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools Office.
The Governing Board began the process of filling the vacancy in Trustee Area 5 at a Regular Board Meeting on December 17, 2024. You can click here to access the current Trustee Map that was adopted by the Governing Board in 2022 following the 2020 census.
What are the qualifications for serving on the Board?
A person must be a citizen of the United States, a resident of the Yucaipa-Calimesa School District, Trustee Area 5, at least 18 years old, and a registered voter.
What is the term of the provisional appointment?
The term of the provisional appointment will expire in November, 2026.
What do I need to apply for the position?
The Governing Board accepts applications from qualified candidates. Please note that resumes may not be submitted in place of an application. Each applicant must submit an official application (linked below). All applications are due by 3:00 p.m. on Friday, January 24, 2025. Applicants must be available for interviews with the Board at an open meeting on Friday, January 31, 2025 at 1:00 p.m.
If I am selected by the Board, when do I take office?
The Board anticipates making an appointment at a Special Board Meeting on January 31, 2025. The appointment will become effective the same day after being sworn in.

Serving on the school board is a valuable and satisfying way to make a significant contribution to the community. The Board, staff, parent and student community enjoy a professional, collaborative relationship.
As public officials, Board members must comply with certain restrictions upon assuming office, a Board member must file a Statement of Economic Interest (Form 700) which is a public document that discloses the Board member’s financial holdings and other economic interests within the boundaries of the District (excluding a personal residence). Board members must refrain from Board activities which constitute a conflict of interest or which are incompatible with their role as Board member.
