“Remember that nothing is small in the eyes of God. Do all that you do with love.”

St. Therese of Lisieux

It is hard to believe that we are already half way through our first semester…and what an amazing start to this school year! Welcome back one and all!!! We extend a special welcome to our new staff, and to the youngest members of our St. Theresa of Lisieux family, our grade 9’s. We are excited to begin another year, which promises to be filled with opportunities for academic success, personal and spiritual growth, and moments to create lasting memories.

This newsletter is a testament to the incredible staff and students and their servant leadership, stewardship, sensitivity and spirit as they continue to create a culture of caring and an unstoppable energy at STL. Our Student Government leaders demonstrated strong Christian leadership in the variety of activities they planned and executed to date: grade 9 Orientation Day, Cultural Movie Night, Recycling Awareness Campaign, School Supplies Drive, Halloween Costume Contest, Semi Formal, and Battle of the Sexes. In addition, the month of November began our social justice themed monthly awareness campaigns, as a way to spread awareness of issues prevalent in our society. These are but a few of the exciting goings on at St. Theresa of Lisieux CHS! With over 500 students involved in student-led clubs, councils and committees, there is never a shortage of students and staff committed to developing students’ passion, skills and interests: our Winter Issue of The Little Flower will highlight the successes of our clubs and committees…stay tuned!

Our student athletes have demonstrated great sportsmanship, athletic skill and drive in the numerous fall sports teams of which they were a part! To date, we have achieved 5 Championship YRAA banners: Open Women’s Golf team, Jr. Tennis Team, Jr. Boys’ Rugby 7’s team, Jr. Boys’ Volleyball team, and Sr. Boys’ Soccer Team. In addition, Our Jr. Boys’ Rugby 7’s team are Ontario Champs and our Senior Boys’ Soccer team is OFSAA bound! Congratulations to all of our athletes! We want to extend a special thank you to all of the staff that gives so freely of their time to make all these events a reality for our school community! Their hard work and efforts play a vital role in the successes mentioned. We thank them for creating such a rich extracurricular life and for their ongoing support of our students!

At St. Theresa of Lisieux CHS there is much of which to be proud!! On October 18th, we honored a number of our students at our annual Awards Night. Students who excelled academically were recognized and celebrated. Over sixty percent of our current grade 10, 11, and 12 students combined received honor roll status and academic excellence for the 2016-2017 school year: what an exceptional achievement!

On November 10th, our Drama students re-enacted the stories of those who fought to ensure our freedom and to maintain the privileges we enjoy today. These were the stories of relatives of our staff members brought to life on stage, by exceptional grade 11 and 12 Dramatic Arts students. We were moved by the students’ performances and the images of those whose stories were told. Thank you to Mrs. Santagato-Davies who directed the show and to our students who helped us to honor the lives of our fallen heroes.

On November 14th, at our annual grade 8 Parent Information evening, we welcomed over 1200 parents and students, as we begin the process of registering new students to St. Theresa of Lisieux for the 2018-2019 school year. Thank you to all the staff and students who attended our grade 8 Parent Information evening, and provided all our guests with information on the grade 9 curriculum, as well as the rich extracurricular life of the school!

Looking ahead as we draw nearer to Christmas, may you be blessed with the peace, love and joy that came upon us with the birth of our Lord and may the coming year bring much happiness, good health and prosperity to one and all.

God bless.

Iolanda Faraone
