It is with great joy and humbleness to be serving as Principal for St. Robert CHS. I am truly honoured. Please let me introduce myself to the entire STR community. I am entering my 29th year as an educator. Prior to arriving at STR, I served as Principal at St. Theresa of Lisieux CHS for the past 7 years. Prior to this I served in the role of Vice Principal at St. Jean de Brebeuf and Fr. Michael McGivney. As a classroom teacher I primarily taught mathematics at the high school level.

St. Robert CHS is steeped with a fine tradition and has built a wonderful reputation that is recognized across our province. Our wonderful programs such as I.B., Robotics and STEM, just to mention a few, have placed us at the top of many academic achievements. We are inspired by the teachings of our Patron Saint, St. Robert Bellarmine who was a teacher of the Church and spread the Good news to anyone who would listen. In his words, he proclaimed the following: “The school of Christ is the school of love”. St. Robert personifies what we teach here at STR by loving your neighbor regardless of the colour of your skin or your religious denomination. As principal of this school, my promise is to make STR a safe and welcoming environment guided by the teachings of Jesus Christ through the Gospels. He is our guiding light.

One of the first tasks that I asked support for was the consistency of the school uniform. My goal, along with the staff, was to keep all students with the same uniform items that reflects our school policy. I was fully aware that certain students would be unhappy not wearing items that perhaps in the past they were able to wear but I truly believe that consistency benefits all especially with safety issues. I have worked with our student leaders and parents and have instituted 2 days per month where students are allowed to where their “civvies” clothes for one of the days and spirit wear on the other. This has commenced for the month of November and will continue throughout the entire year. I want to thank all of our STR families for your cooperation and understanding as we have transitioned to a more consistent uniform as outlined in our student handbook.

2017-2018 promises to be a wonderful year for all of our students. At this point, all of our students are fully immersed in their studies and many extra curricular events are in full force. I kindly ask all of our families to please be careful when dropping your child off at school or picking them up. Please drive carefully in our lot as safety is our number one priority. Your assistance in this matter is greatly appreciated.

I want to welcome returning staff and staff members that are new to our school:

Philippians 4:6-7 Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

CONNECT 4 CANCER

On Friday, October 27th 2017, The St. Robert CHS “CONNECT 4 CANCER NETWORK” held its first ever fundraiser. The Network committee organized a dessert sale

featuring buttercream cupcakes, chocolate bark, chocolate dipped strawberries and pretzels and Kernels Caramel Popcorn. With this dedicated group of students and staff, the event was a sweet success! A sincere thank you to all the individuals who made purchases and/or donated funds in support of the event. Record funds were raised and will be donated to the Canadian Cancer Society!

Cupcakes were themed in pink to support women’s cancer month as well as, the traditional yellow and blue. Our very own Ms. April Cruz and Ms. Mirella Boccia assisted in the set up of the display along with volunteer students from Ms. Mazzacca’s second period English class. Thank you! Justin, Nahaal, Rosa, Rachel, Dina, Raha and Zane! Of course, the dedicated Network team was there to make sure their vision was executed just right!

I was overwhelmed to see the number of staff and students that came out to support this cause. It is truly unfortunate that each of us can tell our own story that relates to cancer; we are someone, we know someone, we have lost someone or we stand to lose someone. It is my sincere belief this common thread is a connection that can be used to unite, offer strength and excite the masses. Hope is possible and contagious.

I would like to thank Ms. Cruz, Mr. Gueli, Ms. Boccia, Ms. Scarcello, Ms. Bottiglione, Ms. De Gregorio, Ms. Coda, Mr. Mastrangelo, Ms. Ashworth, Mr. DiGirolamo, and the Religion Department. We cannot forget the tireless efforts of the custodial staff that always says “Yes” to any request. They are simply AMAZING!!!!

Lastly, none of this would be possible without the support from our Administration team and the coordination and planning of the C4C Network…. They are phenomenal students and volunteers!

A special thank you to Mr. Junior Perry who had Christine Kim distributing pink ribbons. What a great job she did!!!!

November is dedicated to Men’s Health and Awareness with an emphasis on the prevention and treatment of Men’s cancers…. bring on Movember!!! C4C is hard at work! The beat and pulse are strong at St. Robert CHS; this is clear!

God Bless,

Mrs. S. Mazzacca
