Hi, it’s Greer! I’m a junior in Jonathan Edwards studying linguistics, French, and translation. As co-captain of YBDT this year, one of my hopes is to see the team expand in number and grow closer in community – the love and support for and within this team have been awe-inspiring, and I so honored to have the opportunity to continue this tradition. I’m from Louisiana (yay food, boo humidity), though I now live in Vermont (yay snow, boo snow), and I joined ballroom because through it, I met some of the most genuine and kind people – my closest friends to this day.Last year, I served as YBDT’s co-treasurer, where I cultivated a love for spreadsheets and logistics. Choosing Yale was a decision I find it difficult to describe, yet it was ultimately a very easy choice. I visited many schools after being accepted, but when I stepped onto this campus and met some of its people, a little part of me knew it wanted to be here. In addition to ballroom, I sing in a wonderful a cappella group, Cadence of Yale (come check us out sometime!), play viola in the Berkeley College Orchestra, and write translations for the Journal of Literary Translation. I wear many hats, working three jobs on campus. And now…favorite food? my mom’s gumbo (you will not find better anywhere). Favorite drink? apple juice with seltzer water (trust). Campus spot? Branford common room (I once spent almost five consecutive days there, only leaving for the nights). Dance? if we don’t count modern ballroom, maybe polka or lindy hop. Song? “Forever” by Noah Kahan. Color? grey-blue, like stormy clouds. Vacation spot? Paris. or New Orleans. Restaurant? Jaqueline’s Cafe in Shreveport, Louisiana (small and local and oml it’s so good). Country? probably France (food, architecture, cheese!). Resco? JE, obviously. Dining hall? JE, though I eat in Branford a lot, too. Google app? Keep – I like it better than Notes, it’s great. Letter in the alphabet? J (the cursive is gorgeous, imo). Bank provider? Chase Bank, because they gave me candy as a kid (I was bribe-able back then). One time I was attacked by a dog while on a zip-line, so I suppose that kinda counts. Surely the most expensive drink I’ve purchased was a mocktail of some kind, maybe in the $14 range? Something random but personally exciting is that I am now in possession of my very first pair of Converse – low top platforms YAY! Interested in YBDT or anything I’ve listed here?
