Meet the Community

The Diversity and Climate Committee

The current Executive Committee of the DCC is Sean Edington (postdoc), Abi Heuer (graduate student), Fabian Menges (CBIC staff), Allie Nagelski (graduate student), Ellie Stewart-Jones (graduate student), and Juan Serviano (graduate student). The faculty advisor is Professor Patrick Holland, and the administrative assistance comes from Carolyn Kyrtopoulos.

DEI Advocates

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Advocates are trained to help members of our community who experience difficulties, including harassment or discrimination. The Advocates provide advice, act as supportive and non-judgmental listeners, and connect community members to appropriate university resources. As long as they are not in a position of supervision, they are not mandated reporters, and they are committed to maintaining the anonymity of reports and concerns.

This group of graduate student, postdocs, and staff volunteers also organizes department-wide events to foster a welcoming and inclusive chemistry community.

Please refer to the DEI Advocates page for more information about your DEI Advocates, upcoming events, training, and more!

I Am Yale

"I Am Yale" is a program set up by the DCC to highlight the diversity of our community and people who have made a positive impact on Yale's chemistry community. Below is our most recent highlight, Jaylissa Torres Robles (she, her), a Chemistry graduate student in the Turk Lab. If you know someone you believe has had a powerful and positive impact on the climate of the Yale Chemistry Department, we encourage you to recognize their efforts by nominating them here.
