Setze anys enrere, la Unió Europea va assegurar a la seva ciutadania i les seves famílies el dret a la llibertat de moviment i a viure en llibertat en qualsevol dels seus països membres (DIRECTIVE 2004/38/EC).
Però la població LGTB+ segueix havent d'enfrontar dificultats i un tracte desigual, perquè molts estats de la UE no reconeixen les famílies que s'han establert legalment en altres països europeus.
En particular, els infants de parelles del mateix sexe són víctimes dels buits legals i es troben privats de beneficis i proteccions legals. Sovint, no poden obtenir la nacionalitat d'un o tots dos progenitors, perden legalment un dels seus mares o pares, o fins i tot queden apàtrides. Aquí podeu veure alguns casos i informació al respecte.
El dret a la lliure circulació dintre la UE és un dret fonamental de tots els ciutadans dels seus països membres, però les famílies LGTB+ no tenen aquest dret. És per aquest motiu que la Xarxa Europea d'Associacions de Famílies LGBTIQ* (NELFA) està fent una crida a totes les famílies LGTB+:
Ara és el moment d'exigir a les institucions de la UE que facin respectar els acords sobre els drets humans, establir jurisprudència i garantir que les famílies LGTB+ siguin respectades i tractades amb igualtat sota el principi de llibertat de circulació dintre la UE.

16 years ago, the European Union ensured that EU citizens and their family members have the right to move and live freely in their Member States (DIRECTIVE 2004/38/EC).
But LGBT+ people continue to face difficulties and unequal treatment because many Member States do not recognize rainbow families legally established in another EU country.
Especially children of same-sex parents fall victim to those legal gaps and are deprived of benefits and protections. Sometimes, they cannot get citizenship of one or both parents, they lose legal parents or even remain stateless. Have a look at current cases and some background.
The freedom of movement within the EU is a fundamental right of all citizens of its Member States, but LGBT+ families do not have this right. That is why the Network of European LGBTIQ* Families Associations (NELFA) is calling on all LGBT+ families:
It is now on the EU institutions to call on the Members States to respect human rights conventions, settled case law, and to ensure LGBT+ families are respected and treated equally under the principle of freedom of movement across the EU.
