At XISS we believe that investing in rigorous research is essential in a quest to find solutions to the society’s greatest challenges and concerns. Working with the central and various state Government, Public Sector Undertaking, Corporates and Implementing Partners, XISS's faculty members and project officers undertake various studies in order to identify the needs, evaluate the impacts of different people centric programs and suggest the corrective actions. Our focus is on unraveling the socio-economic problems of the society through answers that are Effective, Feasible, Expandable and Sustainable.

Who We Are

The Department of Research and Planning was established as a separate department with an objective of helping the downtrodden and marginalised sections of the society to get justice and become their voice in shaping policies and programmes related to them. In this regard, the department has been constantly endeavouring in the execution of National Policy on Rehabilitation and Resettlement so as to safeguard the interest of the land outsees in terms of getting proper compensation and simultaneously paving the way for development of the society. The department has played pivotal role in ensuring the rights of the displaced and supporting the cause of the voiceless, powerless and vulnerable groups like tribal, dalits and minority ethnic groups through its research findings. The department also conducts need assessment surveys and social impact evaluation studies for PSU's & Corporates as a third party agency under section 135 of the Companies Act 2013. This apart projects related to monitoring and evaluation of several development programmes of the Government and Non-Governmental organizations, research, advocacy, Planning & Policy making are undertaken by the department on a regular basis.

The department established a Geoinformatics Research Center (GRC) with a Geographic Information System and Remote Sensing (GIS & RS) laboratory in 2015. Geoinformatics encompasses multiple disciplines viz. GIS, remote sensing, geodesy, GPS and cartography. It has tremendous utility and applications in decisions involving locational data, or data with spatial dimensions. It deals with both spatial and non-spatial data. It covers all aspects of spatial and non-spatial data management like acquisition, storage, manipulation, analysis, display and modelling etc. Applications of geoinformatics are mainly oriented to real world management problems pertaining to natural as well as man-made environments. GRC condicts a six month training program on Geoinformatics apart from undertaking GIS based projects. more about GIS
