For my personal project I wanted to concentrate on doing things I had never experimented with before, such as more complex photoshop edits, and shooting with film for the first time since the induction period. This has helped me improve my confidence as a photographer and editor. I also shot animal photography for the first time in my life which has allowed me to discover just how much I enjoy it, capturing beautiful animals in their habitat interacting as though they would, it's a very pure form of photography that documents things as they are without any subconscious posing. This project overall has been very enjoyable and has allowed me to improve as a photographer.
This particular image is one of my favourites I have ever taken, I had really become comfortable with the face warping edit by this point and I was able to show off my skills with this image, with what I believe to be, my most realistic face sucking effect that I had taken inspiration from with Antoine Geiger. The formal element of texture being grossly warped is displayed perfectly with this image with all of the ladies key features still being identifiable, which was the overall aim for this shoot. However, I do believe I could've improved my Todd Hido edit by shooting at a later date but especially during summer that is really difficult to accomplish when travelling multiple hours for a shoot. Overall, I think this project has gone really well and I am glad I was able to not only improve my skills at taking pictures themselves by experimenting with vastly new things, but i have also improved my editorial skills and am looking forward to improving more.
