Antoine Geiger - I have chosen this specific photographer regarding memory as I think it sends a strong message about how most of our memory nowadays is stored onto our mobile phones, as if we're glued to them, unable to walk anywhere without catching up on anything on our phones, its an addiction and takes up way too much of our time.
Antoine Geiger was born Tuesday 23rd May 1995 in France, and has lived in England and the Netherlends. He is an artist and architect who mainly experiments with shoots that say something about society. For example this shoot, SUR-FAKE which is criticising our society and its reliability on mobile phones and technology, unable to even walk down the street without being literally sucked into them.
Image Analysis:
This image depicts four different people in the Louvre, glued to their phones, which is ironic as they are in the most visited museum in the world, completely distracted by their phones rather than appreciating some of the most beautiful art in the world. The artist cleverly framed this picture showing all 4 of the people right next to each other, but seemingly unaware of each other due to their phones, paired with the blurred background it creates the atmosphere that they're in their own little bubble, completely disassociated from anything around them that isn't their phone. The image makes me feel a sense of disappointment almost as if we've failed as a society with our inability to focus on the present rather than trying to preserve it, we need to learn to live in the moment and this piece is directly calling us out for it like we need to be. I have chosen this photographer because I believe that our reliance on technology is not only unhealthy, it's dangerous and increasing at a rapid rate, for example in 2002, 1 million texts were sent every month, and this rose to 110 million by 2008, not to mention on average 400 highway deaths a year in America due to cellphone usage. I want to take inspiration from his work and show just how addicted people are to their phones in 2023 in a city booming with technological advances.

Editing Process:
I first created a duplicate layer for non-destructive editing, I then used the polygonal lasso tool to create a connection between the person's face and the phone, following that I converted the image into a smart object and used liquify to create the initial face-sucking look of the photographer. to create more of a distorted look I then added motion blur to the selected area. Finally I created a new layer, selected a white soft brush with around 30% opacity and began to add the glowing effect to the phone, which concluded the edit.
