During the induction period we were experimenting with various styles of photography, with pin holes being exposed to light, a film camera and digital cameras. This allowed us to explore various styles of photography and use the dark room to process our images which I think provide a vintage look.

Darkroom Prints:
I thought this original darkroom edit was way too under exposed at 10 seconds, so I decided to try 15 seconds and the next one turned out perfectly exposed.
I am very happy with this darkroom print I feel like this was the perfect exposure for the image as it conveys the mystery that I wanted to show with this horror esque photo.
Image Analysis: In the image above me Lee Friedlander composes the image by purposefully positioning himself in a way that his photography can reflect, while also ensuring he frames it in a way that the New York City is visible, making this both reflection and landscape photography which I really enjoy. Lee Friedlander used a Leica M film camera and shot on a DOF of 35mm with a high depth of field. For me this creates the atmosphere of loneliness and isolation as the only thing he focuses on is himself and the landscape, as if humans don't really matter to him. I will attempt to incorporate this into my work by solely removing the focus off people, and giving it to the reflective scenery.
Artist Research: Lee Friedlander was born July 14 1934 and was an American photographer known for his asymmetrical black and white images of the American social landscape. He began photographing when he was just 14 years old, he focused on the "social landscape" of America. He used store-front reflections, structures framed by fences. I will attempt to recreate this with my photography by experimenting with various framing and reflective techniques, I will also attempt to give my images a black and white/ grainy look to replicate Friedlander and his film photography.

Evaluation:
I started out this induction period only being able to take digital photography, I can now take pinhole and film photography with confidence, this has helped me expand my skills and be more precise with my photography and take pictures while thinking about themes and connections with photographers. I feel I could definitely work on improving my digital photography as I need to be more patient with my photography to ensure I get a shot that I am happy with, I can do this by not giving myself a time limit for my photoshoots so I can relax and photograph what intrigues me and fits themes I'm trying to convey.
I have chosen this image as my best image for the induction period as I believe it is the most accurate to the work of Lee Friedlander as not only does it experiment with reflective photography, the landscape in the background is only visible via the reflection which is a technique he frequently experiments with, I believe this photo also contains a sense of isolation as no human life is present and the photo itself is very dark and desolate which was achieved with editing to make my image a closer representation to that of Lee Friedlander.
