Wycliffe preschool seeks to nurture faith in Jesus Christ as the children explore, discover and learn about God’s world. This can be seen through:
We value children and see them as “fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:14). We view them as curious, confident, creative, resilient, and competent learners. We seek to support and extend children by fostering their individual interests, strengths, needs and identities. We value the unique contributions made by the children and work to support their independence. Early childhood is a vital period in children’s learning and development and we know this is supported by international research and evidence.
W provide a challenging, exciting, safe and inclusive program for three and four and five year old children. The EYLF provides the broad framework for our preschool program where children learn through play. The children are given time, space and resources to ‘be’ in the present and explore God’s world through play and relationships with others.
We seek to build trusting positive relationships, for all involved in the preschool, based upon love, respect, compassion, empathy and forgiveness. We seek to grow these relationships as we support, encourage, become friends, nurture, communicate openly, share interests and care for each other.
We encourage each child’s social and emotional wellbeing, a sense of identity, and a sense of belonging within the preschool, local community and as a child of God. Our preschool is a place in which each child can feel loved, accepted and valued. As children explore, collaborate, play and have fun they are supported in forming deep inclusive friendships which continue on into the formal school years and beyond.
We acknowledge that children’s first and most influential teachers are their families. Each family is respected, celebrated and reflected within the preschool as we endeavour to build authentic, and reciprocal partnerships with families and the community. These partnerships are built on a foundation of understanding as we work collaboratively to create meaningful learning experiences. We offer opportunities for families to share and connect with others as they develop their own sense of belonging to Wycliffe Preschool and Wycliffe Christian School. We share a partnership with our wider school community, which provides us with opportunities that include connections with people, resources and school community events.
The Preschool staff are a team of Christian educators who bring their own strengths, gifts and experiences to the service. Staff model healthy, loving, respectful and unselfish relationships. We are respected, valued, cared for and supported. We hold qualifications in Early Childhood Education from recognised training organisations and are encouraged and supported in our quest for ongoing professional development so that we continue to keep up to date, learn and grow as educators.
Wycliffe Preschool is a place where children develop life skills and create meaningful moments that become precious memories. We are also blessed with the opportunity to engage in the school environment and provide a smooth transition into Wycliffe Christian School. We foster the development of communication and language (including early literacy and numeracy), problem solving skills and social and emotional skills with an emphasis on reflecting Jesus’ values.
