Welcome!

I am an Assistant Professor of Geology at Western Washington University. For my research, I utilize melt inclusions (tiny blobs of magma trapped in crystals), minerals, and the physical properties of volcanic rocks to study a variety of magmatic processes from magma reservoir evolution and eruption dynamics, to mantle melting and the chemical evolution of Earth's interior. I primarily teach courses in Mineralogy, Igneous Petrology, Geochemistry, and Volcanology, but also really enjoy teaching Field Geology, Natural Hazards, and Tectonics!

When I'm not in the lab or classroom, you can find me outside (running, biking, surfing, hiking, and foraging for mushrooms and shellfish) or in the kitchen (trying new recipes from whatever cookbook/cuisine I'm currently obbsessed with). I love travelling and have a soft spot for vibrant modern art.

I acknowledge that I live and work on the ancestral homelands of the Coast Salish Peoples. I express my respect and gratitude for our Indigenous neighbors, the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, for their enduring care and protection of our shared lands and waterways.
