The Equity Learning Collective is a Bellingham-based learning group initially formed through interest from WWU’s Center for Community Learning (CCL) and a handful of attendees of PolicyLink’s Equity Summit. Over several months the forming group brought together a basic framework for holding space to explore racial equity and anti-racism, and the convening role has been adopted by Makela Alem and Summer Starr. Learning groups of community leaders meet to explore material that emerges from group members' knowledge, experience and curiosity.
We are excited to announce our upcoming series that is now open to the larger non-profit and higher education community in Whatcom County AND beyond. Over the next several months we will focus on AORTA's Uprooting White Supremacy in Organizations materials. We will have an initial meeting in the fall where participants will be introduced to the materials as well as a survey that can be brought back to your organization to analyze how these characteristics show up in your work. The winter and spring series will focus on diving deeper into analysis of each of the topics outline in the AORTA handout with the main focus being collective conversation how this resource intersects with our work and our lives.
You do NOT need to take the AORTA training, but this would of course deepen your experience of the material!
