Before beginning my teaching career, I worked in the fashion industry for over 30 years n various capacities including designer, design director and vice president of design and merchandising.

The companies I worked for include Marithe &Francois Girbaud, Pepe Jeans, Perry Ellis America, Macys' Private Label, and Talbots. I was particularly focused on the design and merchandising of casual jeans and sportswear with a special interest in textile design.

I aim to bring the many faceted worlds of fashion and interior design to my students through field trips and guest speakers. My students will use the same product development process and learn the same standards of excellence that designers and merchants use in the real world of design .

How to make Face Masks-

Watch the video from youtube for a general idea of how to make them.

The two photos show you the finished masks and the directions sheet shows you the dimensions and general assembly.

These masks fit well around the head and nose. They are washable. A filter is inserted in between the two layers of fabric. The filter can be made from cut up reusable shopping bags, coffee filters, or nonwoven interfacing. If you are a sewer, you may have that at home.

The fabric must be 100% cotton not a blended fabric.

The ties can be either narrow elastic or a string type tie which is what is used in the photo. The wire should be the plastic coated type.

My friend Kevin's video on how he made his masks is below.

Valley Hospital is asking the community to make these for these to made for their staff. You can drop off your homemade masks at a box outside the front door of the Valley Medical Building at 15 Essex Road, Paramus, NJ.

During business hours a lady comes out to get them but you can drop anytime in the box.

The trip was a collaboration between the Interior Design class and the Architecture class.

The trip took us inside one of New York's most famous buildings, The Hearst Tower, for a private tour.

We also explored the many great buildings in the Lincoln Center area .

Architecture Field Trip to NYC

The Fashion Entrepreneurs Class takes a field trip to a boutique to study the store layout and merchandise mix. Later in the year, we go to a showroom, tour of LIM College and a fashion scavenger hunt inside Saks Fifth Avenue and Rockefeller Center. In this class, each student designs their own retail store and plans the assortment mix for their target customer. During the second semester, students work as a team developing a brand, collection and catalog in order to sell their product in a mock showroom. This class will be offered again in the 2019-2020 school year.

The Interior Design classes go on various field trips to see inspiring architecture and design. We will visit Manitoga in the fall. Manitoga is located in Garrison, NY. It is the estate and house of Russel Wright, an important industrial designer from the 1930s- 1950s. The photos below were taken during a past year's trip.
