Meet Mrs. Binder

Meet Mrs. Binder

I was born and raised in Upper Saddle River, NJ. As a child I spent countless hours "playing school" with my siblings and friends. In third grade, after reading the book Matilda by Roald Dahl, I knew that when I grew up I wanted to be a caring and loving teacher just like Miss Honey.

After graduating from Northern Highlands Regional High School, I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Arizona. Last May I earned my Master’s Degree in Special Education!

This school year will be my 13th year teaching! Throughout my teaching preparation, I taught and volunteered in K-5 classrooms and student taught in a 3rd grade classroom. My first year out of college, I taught 4th grade at the elementary school that I attended as a child in Upper Saddle River. During my first two years at Berkeley I taught 2nd grade, and this will be my 10th year teaching 5th grade! This is my third year co-teaching with Miss Sabbagh and although this year is starting under unique and unprecedented circumstances, we are anxious to meet our new students and begin the school year with excitement and enthusiasm. Working together, we are confident that this school year will be a successful and happy one for your child!

Although I have enjoyed teaching a variety of grade levels, 5th grade is one of the most rewarding grades to teach. I especially love that I help to prepare students for the adventures of Middle School! I enjoy teaching all of the core subjects, however my favorite thing to instill in my 5th grade students is how to be organized and become independent, humble and kind lifelong learners.

When I am not in school, I enjoy spending time with my two sons Jack and Dean and my husband Jeff. I often share pictures and videos of Jack and Dean with my students, so I am sure your child will come home with tons of stories about their adventures!! I also love baking, scrapbooking, working out, going to Broadway musicals, and spending time with my family and my friends.

I am a firm believer of open communication. Therefore, if there is ever a concern or question, please feel free to email me at any time. I will do my best to respond as promptly as possible.

I am looking forward to an exciting, rigorous, engaging and memorable school year with you and your child!
