Gifted and Talented / Enrichment Program
Enrichment/Gifted and Talented Grades K-3
Students in grades K-3 will be identified as gifted learners and will have the opportunity to work with the gifted and talented teacher for one marking period, approximately 10 weeks during Social Studies classes. The G&T teacher will meet with classes once a week on a rotating basis during a designated marking period and work with small groups of identified students in class on special projects within the social studies curriculum.
Pull-out Gifted and Talented classes grades 4 through 7
Students are identified for the gifted and talented program using multiple measures including :
- Cognitive Skills Index
- PARCC Scores
- Report Card grades
- Teacher Evaluation
Students meet once a week. The program is designed to focus on higher order thinking skills infused in problem based learning, research projects, science projects and experiments, analogies, and logic puzzles. Students are responsible to make up all missed work in their regular class.
The Passion Project is an independent study project offered to all students in grades 3-5. This project is optional. Students who are interested will sign a contract between their parents, themselves and the gifted and talented teacher to complete a project of their choice. The project is done completely at home with guidance from the gifted and talented teacher and minimal assistance from parents. This project offers an opportunity to go beyond the curriculum that is presented in class. Emphasis is placed on creativity and originality.
