I have been an elementary school teacher for 20 years! I began my teaching journey in the Bronx where I taught 1st and 2nd grades. I began working in Westwood in September, 2000 where I taught 3rd and 4th grades at Ketler School eventually leading me to Brookside Elementary School teaching 4th grade. This year I am happy to be part of 5th grade at Washington Elementary School!
I earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from St. Thomas Aquinas College in Sparkill, NY and my Master of Arts in Curriculum and Teaching from Teachers College, Columbia University, NY with a focus in reading and writing.
As a teacher, I will provide for individual differences in ability. Learning is fun when children are motivated to reach their learning potential. I will present material in a variety of ways allowing for individual learning differences to create a positive and productive child-centered learning environment.
My mission is to provide a safe and child centered classroom so that students will take risks by asking and answering questions in a comfortable learning environment. I would like my students to walk out of the classroom each day feeling that they have tried their best and feel rewarded for putting their best foot forward. I will try to make each student feel valued and appreciated by creating a community of learners who respect one another. I hope that each child in my classroom will develop an awareness and an appreciation of the world around them as they continue their journey when they leave my class.
I welcome you into our classroom where together we can make 5th grade for your son or daughter a wonderful year!
