Bienvenidos (Welcome)

"One language sets you in a corridor for life. Two languages open every door along the way"

My name is Ms. Alaina M. Schinn. I am a certified World Language (Spanish) teacher.  I graduated from the University of Scranton with a degree in Education and Spanish. I have my master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction. I also have a Supervisory certificate.

I have been teaching for a total of 23 years. I have taught in the Westwood Regional School District for the past 21 years. I am currently teaching kindergarten, first, second, third, fourth, and fifth grade Spanish. I truly enjoy working with elementary students since they are enthusiastic learners. I am very passionate about teaching Spanish.

All students will be able to use a world language in addition to English to engage in meaningful conversation, to understand and interpret spoken and written language, and to present information, concepts, and ideas, while also gaining an understanding of the perspectives of other cultures. Through language study, they will make connections with other content areas, compare the language and culture studied with their own, and participate in home and global communities.

I foster oral communication with an emphasis on listening and speaking in grades K-5. Reading and writing are also an integral part of the Spanish curriculum in third, fourth, and fifth grades.
