It's easy to forget that we're a part of the earth's natural order, just as fallible to psychological and emotional instincts as our 'animal' counterparts. The psyche and the undermining emotions of doubt, rage, sorrow, etc. are powerful forces beyond personal comprehension, like monsoon rains and cyclonic winds, beheld by all yet untouchable

Fragmentation seeks to convey the power of these forces and our powerlessness beneath them by harnessing the evocative human figure as a motif. Broken down into bodily masses and distilled into ellipses, the figure can be produced recognizably  yet manipulated to produce movement and evoke emotion. 

Turbidity Current and the triptych Landfall, Surge, Eye were my first experiments using these elliptical forms to represent the 'fragmented' soul.
